The Most Useful Warm-Up The pen cubes warmup was the most helpful warmup this unit because it allowed me to learn how to add value to a pen drawing. Without this warmup, I would not have been able to add value to my drawing and it would look a lot worse and would not look as realistic as it does now. Pros and Cons
The pros of pencil drawings are that they do not smudge easily, its easy to add texture and value, and you have a larger range of shades to choose from rather than charcoal and pen drawings. The cons of pencil drawings are that they are very detailed and they cant shade as dark of a color as charcoal or pen. The pros of charcoal drawings are that they can show very dark colors and don't need to have fine and clean lines. The cons of charcoal drawings are that it is hard to incorporate detailed textures ,they smudge very easily, and its hard to incorporate lighter colors and value. The pros of pen drawings are that they allow me to use dark colors and to add specific details to my drawings. The cons are that the pen does not blend easily together and in my opinion its the hardest type of drawing to add value to due to only being one solid color. Definitions Value: The range of light to dark in a piece of art. Composition: The placement or arrangement of visual elements in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work.
