This week I attempted to throw on the wheel while I was in person, but I did not do very well even with Ms. Sudkamp's help. I didn't get any pictures of those failed pieces because my hands were covered in clay but all they looked like was a lump of clay. I also made a geometric vase out of a circle base and 8 trapezoid pieces.
While at home, I trimmed a good amount of my pieces including a "teacup" and a bowl. I also began glazing the bowl that I made a couple weeks ago. I am painting it with the pattern of small brush strokes to kind of represent the lines of the fringe on my other pieces.

So far, I haven't done much this week because I was super busy with tests in other classes, BUT I have been working on my embroidery and I have been planning some of my pieces. After class on Thursday, I started to rethink some of my pieces and how they go with my concentration. I think I am going to combine some of my ideas into larger pieces and expand on some of my existing pieces. I sketched out an idea I have for 5-7 vases of different shapes, sizes and colors. They can represent my family and how even though they are all different, they all are similar in that they always help and love me.
Earlier this week I tried to make another bowl for my hanging planter, but every time the clay would collapse and the piece would be ruined. I was unable to take pictures because my hands were covered in clay but I will try to next time. P.S. I will add more pictures this weekend as I have more time to work on my projects. Clay This week I began throwing on the wheel and after many a trial and error, I made three small bowls, a medium sized bowl, and what I hope to be the base of a teacup. The main challenge I faced while throwing was keeping the clay centered as I formed the bowl shape. I also began trimming some of my pieces including: a few of the small bowls, the base of my chalice, one of my larger bowls. I messed up the base of the chalice because it flew off the wheel when I didn't have enough clay to support it. I plan on trimming it more to fix it or, if that does not work, I will make a new base. Textiles This week I also began sewing the tapestry with a piece of fabric to make a bag/purse. I am not a huge fan of how it looks currently, so I will most likely alter it or in cooperate the tapestry some other way. This past weekend I began working on my embroidery project. I am using denim fabric and a 6-inch embroidery loop to create my design. I am not very experienced when it comes to embroidery, but I am confident in how my project looks at the moment. My concentration is a representation of my love and appreciation for my family. Like many people, I take what I have, including my family, for granted almost everyday of my life. I wanted to create functional pieces of art for each one of my direct family members to show how much I cherish them. Each time they use it in the future, I want them to be reminded of me and my appreciation for all that they do.
I started my week off by planning and making a tapestry over the long weekend. I gained inspiration for it from an artists I saw on Pinterest. I used a loom to make diagonal layers of fringe and small loops. Once I finished the tapestry, I removed it from the loom and touched up some of the fringe and excess pieces of yarn. I am not sure if I will use it as a decorative piece, or if I will turn it into something functional like a pillow or purse.
Later in the week, I began planning more of my pieces including a hanging planter and a chalice. I sketched out both pieces and tried to incorporate the fringe that I am trying to include in all of my pieces.
At the beginning of the week, I added finishing touches to my shirt and took more pictures of it in better lighting. I finished sewing on the fringe and I attached more magazine pieces where some were falling of or were damaged.
This week I continued to work on my shirt from last spring by adding fringe to it's sides. I also touched up some of it's magazine pieces that had begun to fall of.
